Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:22-24 Open Heaven 18 June 2022

22. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? 2 Chronicles 10:6

We ascertained yesterday that wives are meant to be submissive to their husbands as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). However, a wife may not be submissive to her husband if the man himself is not submissive to God. 1 Corinthians 11:3 tells us that there is a chain of command to follow. “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”

If a man has not submitted to God as the Church has submitted to Christ, then he has broken the chain and his wife may also just not submit to him. One thing I know from Scripture is that even if a wife is the devil himself, once the husband submits to God, the wife will eventually submit to him in turn. It is a spiritual principle. If you don’t believe me, read James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” It says that if you submit to God, even the devil will obey you. If you tell him run, he will run.

If you are a husband I know your wife cannot be worse than the devil, so definitely, if you submit to God, that woman will do the same to you. Submitting to God also means allowing Him to guide you when it comes to relating with your spouse and following His instructions strictly. God wants your marriage to succeed, so if you submit to and rely on Him to make it work, He will tell you what to do per time for it to be heaven on earth. He will guide you on how to show love to your wife and also guide her on how to be submissive to you.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 the above passage says that you should not lean on your own understanding.

Don’t try to get your spouse to submit to or love you with your own understanding. Submit to God, love Him, depend on Him for direction and your marriage will indeed be blessed.

1 I love this family of God,

So closely knitted into one,

They have taken me into their arms

And am so glad to be

A part of this great family

2 I bless this family of God,

So greatly prospered by the Lord,

They have taken me into their arms

And am so glad to be

A part of this great family

3 I know this family of God,

So deeply rooted in the word,

They have taken me into their arms

And am so glad to be

A part of this great family

4 I see this family of God,

So highly lifted above all,

They have taken me into their arms

And am so glad to be

A part of this great family

5 Come, join this family of God,

So highly favoured by the Lord,

They have taken me into their arms

And am so glad to be

A part of this great family.
