MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 14 August 2025 Thursday Daily Devotional
Over the past three days, I discussed the importance of always getting refilled with the anointing. Today and in the next few days, I will discuss ways by which believers can be refilled. As God’s child, you must ensure that your spiritual fervency and passion for the things of God do not reduce. The word of God is a potent tool for recharging your spiritual battery, and this is why you must spend quality time studying, memorising, and meditating on the Scriptures daily.
Nowadays, many Christians do not memorise Scriptures because everything is now digital. If someone needs to refer to a Bible passage, the fellow can just search for it through Google and other search engines. Once the fellow types a bit of the verse as a search term, immediately, the passage comes up on the screen. While digitisation is good, it is important to meditate on Scriptures and know some of them by heart, as this will prepare you to face anything the enemy brings your way.
In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus overcame the devil’s temptations by quoting Scriptures. There were no search engines at that time, and He didn’t need them – He knew God’s word by heart because He had meditated on them and memorised them. My Father in the Lord wasn’t formally educated, yet he knew a lot of Scriptures by heart. If he could memorise the Scriptures, so can you.
In John 6:63, Jesus said that the words He speaks to us are spirit and life. Therefore, the more of His words you take in, the more spirit-filled you will be. God’s word is powerful; it is alive and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). As you fill yourself with His word, He will show you things, relationships, and places that can quickly drain your spiritual battery and puncture your faith. One way to know if you are really filled with God’s word is to check your conversations. Matthew 12:34 says that it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. If your heart is filled with God’s word, your mouth will be filled with His word too. The more you study God’s word, the more like Him you will become (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Beloved, become addicted to studying, memorising, and meditating on God’s word and you will be spiritually vibrant at all times. I pray that you will never lose your fervency and passion for the things of God, in Jesus’ name.

Hallelujah. Our topic for today once more says always refill part four. Four days back we studied the first part of the topic always refill. In that study our father and the lord explained to us the importance of recharging our spiritual batteries after every season of intense spiritual activities. We were made to understand that we needed to always be very vigilant and sensitive because the enemy that we have never takes a break. 3 days back we studied the second part of the same topic always refill. And our father and the lord explained to us in that study that man can get exhausted and when he is exhausted it is important to refill. We learned that we must never think that we are indispensable. We’re made to understand that constant recharging of our batteries when we’re exhausted helps us to do even more work and be of greater service to the Lord.
Yesterday, we studied the third part of the topic always refill. And in that study, our father and the Lord made us understand that sometimes the reason that we need to get refilled is not that we are exhausted or that the anointing has been depleted after a period of intense spiritual activity. He said we need to refill because sometimes the flesh would want to rise above the spirit. We also learned from that study that some of the manifestations of the flesh rising above the spirit include anger and uncontrolled emotions. Anger drains spiritual energy. Another manifestation of the flesh rising above the spirit which we learned from that study is overconfidence where we trust in our own strength, our own efforts, our own wisdom to carry us through failing to acknowledge the Lord. We learned that when we see the flesh rising above the spirit in any of these manifestations, it is important that we run to God and ask for mercy and our God is faithful. He would graciously restore us. Hallelujah.
Today we have before us the fourth part of the topic always reveal. And our father and the Lord explain to us one very important aspect of our spiritual growth. One that causes for our maturity.
One very important and very potent tool for recharging our spiritual batteries which is the word of God. Hallelujah. We learned from our study for today that sadly so many believers today fail to commit God’s word to heart. The psalmist in Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.” We learned from today’s study that one of the surest ways to remain spiritually vibrant is to immerse ourselves in the word of God. We are made to understand that the word is not just black ink on white paper. God’s word is life. His word is spirit. And just like motor vehicles go to a filling station to refill their tanks, the word of God is a supernatural filling station for the believer. That is where we go to top up. So, know for sure that without regular intake of the word, our spiritual fancy will begin to dim and our ability to stand in the day of temptation will be weakened.
Many of us have telephones today and we know that our phones cannot survive without regular charging. It is the same way too with our spirits. It cannot remain a flame without a constant supply of God’s word. It is the word of God that renews our minds. His word strengthens our hearts, and his word equips us for every good work. Hallelujah. We are made to understand from today’s study that although technology may be good, digitalization may have made things easy. However, we can never overemphasize the importance of committing God’s word to heart. There is no doubt that when the enemy strikes, you will not have time to begin to pull out your phone and Google a Bible verse.
Never forget that the word that will save you in that moment is the word that is already dwelling richly in you.
Imagine David facing Goliath, he did not even have to return home to fetch any instrument. He did not have to go and get a sword. He used what he already knew, and he already had to defeat the enemy. We can tell from his speech that David knew of God’s power. He had studied God’s word, and he had seen practically from his past dealings the mighty power of God to save. So, he wasn’t guessing. He wasn’t trying his luck. From God’s word, he knew what works. The same principle applies to us, too. In the day that you face the enemy, you will be fighting with what you have stored up, not with what you intend to look for later. So, brothers and sisters, when was the last time you memorized a portion of scripture? When was the last time you intentionally committed God’s word to heart? Memorizing scripture is not an outdated practice. It is a spiritual safeguard.
Our Lord Jesus Christ himself demonstrated this to us when he faced the devil in the wilderness. Imagine that our Lord Jesus had to go and quickly do some consultations before returning to the enemy. It would have been catastrophic. But thanks be to God for the responses he had readily available. Every response began with it is written. Hallelujah. He spoke from the reservoir of God’s word hidden in his heart. That encounter also reveals to us that the enemy knows scriptures.
He knows what God’s word says and he would always bring it before you too to tempt you. So now tell me what happens to a believer who is not grounded in God’s word. One who has no word in his arsenal against the enemy. He would fall cheaply. Do not be that kind of believer. Hallelujah. We learned from today’s study also that God’s word is a weapon and a filter. His word is said to be sharper than any two-edged sword.
Hallelujah. Think of Joseph in Genesis chapter 39. When Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, Joseph didn’t begin to weigh the pros and the cons. He didn’t begin to try to consider if it was wrong or not. He had the word, and the fear of God already engraved in his spirit. So that inner conviction which was rooted in God’s truth enabled him to flee without negotiation.
We learn also from today’s study that it is out of the fullness of our hearts that our mouth would speak. You cannot give what you don’t have if God’s word is not dwelling in you richly. When you are faced with challenges there would be no words to give back. I made to understand in today’s study that when the word of God is abundant within you it will naturally spill out. When you put a cup under running water, that cup continues to get filled until it begins to overflow. So, if gossip, if fear or worldly slang dominates your speech, then it is a sign that your heart is running low on scripture. But when the word of God is in abundance within you, it will naturally spill out. Whether it is through counsel to a friend or when you are praying over a situation or even in moments of crisis in your calmness those words would begin to come to remembrance. Today’s study makes us understand that when we feed on God’s word when we behold his word we are gradually transformed into the image of Christ. When we dwell with God’s word we become like soap on a leaf. He leaves his deposit within us. So dear brothers and sisters, in a world where we have busy schedules, in a world where there is so much information flying around without the truth of God’s word in abundance, it is important that God’s word is our anchor. And practical ways we can stay filled with God’s word includes one setting a fixed time daily for reading and meditation of God’s word. You can make God’s word for example your first meal in the morning.
Two, you can memorize a verse each week or each day. You can start small but ensure to be consistent and over time your heart would be a treasury of scripture.
Three, learn to pray the word. Turn verses into personal prayers. Hold God by his word and you’d see him come through for you in ways you never expected.
Four, speak the word aloud. Let your ears hear it. Scripture makes us understand that faith comes by hearing. So, when you speak it, you are hearing it, too.
Five, surround yourself with scripture. You can have a board or place scriptures on your desks, on your phone wallpapers, or even on your home walls as constant reminders.
I remember once hearing the story of a very great father of faith how that he had Bibles at the entrance of his rooms so that before he enters in he would take a peek at God’s word. What a way to remain fire filled. Hallelujah.
Dear brothers and sisters, if you want to remain spiritually vibrant, then make the word of God your daily bread. There is no doubt that the word you neglect today will be the weapon that you will lack tomorrow. So, hold on to his word like your life depends on it. I would like us at this point to bow our heads and begin by appreciating God for the gift of his word to us. His word which is our assurance, our defence and our weapon of war as his children
Thank you for your word which can change and transform us and give us victory over the enemy. Lord, we ask today for the grace to be students of your word. Help us that your word will dwell in us richly in Jesus mighty name we have prayed. Amen. Praise the Lord. We have a reflection in today’s study that asks how often you do study, memorize and meditate on God’s word. We receive the grace today to be students of God’s word having his word dwelling richly in us in Jesus’ name. Amen.
