MEMORISE: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

READ: James 3:1-12 Open Heavens 14 September 2025

1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

MESSAGE: –  Open Heavens 14 September 2025 Sunday Daily Devotional

It is very important that parents speak the right words into their children’s lives. Speaking the right words plays a huge role in laying a solid foundation for children. Unfortunately, some parents are careless with their words. They are not diligent in processing what is in their hearts before they speak; therefore, what comes out of their mouths towards their children is not wholesome. Parents should bless their children, not curse them or make negative pronouncements on them.  When Rachel gave birth to her second son, she pronounced a curse on him because of the pain she went through in childbearing. If Jacob had not changed that name to Benjamin, that child would probably have lived a sorrowful life (Genesis 35:18).

Many people live in sorrow because of the evil pronouncements their parents made over them. Parents should not do that to their children; instead, they should use their mouths to bless them every day. They should also learn to keep some things that God reveal to them about their children to themselves so that they don’t expose them to human and demonic attacks. Mary kept the things she had received concerning Jesus in her heart (Luke 2:19). It isn’t everything God shows parents about their children that they should share. Some things are for an appointed time, they should wait for that time.

Parents should also not share everything about what is going on in their children’s lives on social media. Social media is a marketplace with different kinds of people. If Mary or Joseph had been careless about the whereabouts of Jesus when God told them to leave for Egypt, Herod could have found a means to kill him in Egypt. Parents should be wise about sharing their children’s information online. Some children have gotten into the wrong hands because their parents were careless.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 says that parents must teach their children God’s ways. They must tell them about His laws in the morning, noon, and night, and use every opportunity to drill God’s word into their minds. If you’re a parent, use your mouth to raise your children, not tear them down. My mother would always bless me by saying that when I call one person, hundreds will come running, and today, those blessings have truly manifested in my life.

Let your words be seasoned with grace always (Colossians 4:6). Let your lips be a wellspring of life to your children. Let them always know they will meet words of life, not death, on your lips.

Parents must speak life to their children daily

Open Heavens 14 September 2025 Monday Commentary

Amen. Praise the Lord.

Our topic for today once more says, “Raise them with wholesome words.” And today’s message is a reminder to us of the tremendous power that lies upon the tongues of parents. It is important for us to also note that words are not just sounds, they are seeds. When we plant seeds in the hearts of these children and in their lives, those seeds germinate into realities that those children enter into. So, they are either blessed, or they become burdened. Many parents today may not even be aware that they are responsible for the hardship of their children because of the words they planted into the lives of those children many years ago. They may have thought, “Oh, I just said it casually.” But the enemy took record of it, and he did not assume it was a joke. He noted it until he carefully supervised its manifestation. God’s will be that the lips of parents would become fountains of blessings that shape the destinies of their children in line with his purpose. So as a parent today as someone whom God has placed over others, how many destinies have you built with your words? What are the kinds of words you release when you are under pressure? What are the kinds of things you say when you are in pain? What do you say when you are not happy? When you are disappointed? When you feel frustrated? The enemy will not ignore those words because of how you felt that moment. Instead, he would even take advantage of it.

Beloved, please always remember that the tongue is too powerful to be used carelessly. We also learned from today’s study that parents should learn to keep some things that God reveals to them about their children to themselves so that they do not expose their children to human and demonic attacks. I know that God has revealed this and that about your child. I know that he’s an exceptional child. We know that he or she has a bright future. But never forget also that not everyone who is smiling at you actually has good intentions for you. Some would want that joy to be turned into sorrow. Sometimes talking too much and exposing too much also could be giving those children away and releasing too much information to the enemy. Not everything that God shows you about your child is for public consumption. Some revelations are for you to intercede, not for you to announce. If Mary had run, for example, to social media in her day and say, “Oh, see my child, he’s the Messiah.” Do you even know that angels visited me? She would have probably exposed our Lord Jesus to premature danger. Let us learn from the example of Mary today.

There’s a time to speak and there’s a time to be silent. Not every dream about your child is for the ears of men. Guard their destinies with discretion and with prayer. We’re also made to understand from today’s study that parents should also not share everything about what is going on in their children’s lives on social media. We live in a time when parents without thinking parade their children on social media. They expose them to danger. Some parents post pictures, locations, schools, and activities with reckless abandon. You had an activity with your children today. You post on social media. You were at so place with them today. You post on social media. Oh, my child just want so and so. You post on social media. Someone can literally know your brief family history just by going through your social media handle. That is not correct. Stop being careless. We are made to understand from today’s study that Herod sought to kill baby Jesus. If Joseph and Mary, for example, had carelessly shared his location, the enemy would have struck earlier. So, avoid oversharing information. Hallelujah. From today’s study also we are made to realize that parents are prophets over their children. And whether they realize it or not, that is what God has called them to be in their homes. Isaac blessed Jacob and those blessings followed him for life.

Jacob blessed his 12 sons, and those words became the prophetic identity of the 12 tribes of Israel. Even our Lord Jesus himself before ascending he spoke blessings over his disciples and those words carried them into Pentecost. So dear parents take your role seriously. Stop tearing down with your tongue. Begin to prophesy daily. Call forth greatness. Speak life. Speak prosperity, health, wisdom, and divine favor. Even when you see weakness in your children, declare strength over them. When you see failure, declare victory over them. Hallelujah. So, we admonished in today’s study to guard our tongues in anger. Never curse your children out of frustration. Bless intentionally. Set aside moments daily to speak positive declarations over your children. Lay your hands on them and declare God’s promises. Also, we learn to be discrete to protect our children’s details and their destinies from unnecessary exposure, especially online. We learn to teach diligently.

Use every opportunity, even your mealtimes, your bedtimes, even while on transit. Learn to instil God’s word into their hearts. Model godly speech to them. Let them learn how to speak softly and kindly from you because that would eventually be how they also would relate with others around them. I would like us at this point to bow our heads and ask the Lord today would be saying, “Father, please forgive me for every negative word I may have spoken over my children in the name of Jesus.” Maybe there are words we may have spoken out of pain, out of anger, out of frustration. Say Lord please have mercy in Jesus’s name. Also ask the Lord today say father by your mercy please cancel every curse cancel every negative word that may be hanging over my children or working against them in Jesus’s name. Let every of those words be replaced with blessings with divine words that would go ahead of them to make the path straight for them in the name of Jesus.

Ask the Lord today. Say, “Father, let their lives be blessed in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. All around them, let receive your favor in the name of Jesus.” Maybe you are even trusting God for the fruit of the womb. Pray ahead of them. Say, “Father, let them be blessed. Let them enjoy your favor. Let them walk in your light in the name of Jesus.” Now ask the Lord today. Say, “Father, please give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to keep silent concerning my children’s destinies in the name of Jesus.” Ask the Lord today for divine wisdom, spiritual intelligence, understanding on times and seasons, when to speak and when to be silent. Ask the Lord today for the grace also to be quiet about the things that we must not talk about publicly yet, not to release unnecessary information in the name of Jesus. Ask the Lord today for the grace for our mouths to become fountains of life, speaking only blessings over our household in the name of Jesus. Say, “Father, please help me that every blessing I pronounce over my children would come to pass speedily in the name of Jesus. As I speak blessings over their lives, let it manifest. Let it become their reality in the name of Jesus.” Begin to bless the name of the Lord and give him thanks. Thank him for answers to prayers. Just worship him. Adore his holy name. Lord, we bow before your majesty. Thank you for being our prayer answering God. In Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.

Open Heavens 14 September 2025 Sunday Hymn

Hymn 59: I Want to Be Like Jesus

1 I want to be like Jesus,

So lowly and so meek;

For no one marked an angry word

That ever heard him speak.

Refrain:

I want to be like Jesus,

God’s well beloved Son;

I want to be like Jesus,

The pure and holy One.

2 I want to be like Jesus,

So frequently in prayer;

Alone upon the mountain top,

He met his Father there. [Refrain]

3 I want to be like Jesus,

Engaged in doing good,

So that of me it may be said,

He hath done what he could. [Refrain]

4 Alas! I’m not like Jesus,

As anyone may see;

Thy gentle Spirit, Savior, send,

And make me like to thee. [Refrain]
