MEMORISE: This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 1 Timothy 3:1

READ: 1 Peter 5:1-4 Open Heavens 7 December 2025

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 7 December 2025 Sunday Daily Devotional

When people are promoted in their secular jobs, they can get promoted to positions where they will have less work to do than when they were at lower levels. In the kingdom of God, however, the real meaning of promotion is more work.

I recall many years ago, when I had not yet become the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, I saw the General Superintendent praying all through the night on one occasion, and I was worried. I thought something terrible had happened, so l asked him what the problem was the following morning. He laughed and said that I would understand much later.

Many years later, when I became the General Overseer, I understood because I now pray all night too. As God promotes you in ministry, the work and sacrifices that you need to engage in will increase. For example, I had never spent Father’s Day with my family until 2020, during the coronavirus induced lockdown. I am also extremely happy whenever I have the opportunity to sleep in my own bed because it now happens very rarely.

The amount of time l have to rest now is less than the amount of time l had to do so when The Redeemed Christian Church of God had 100,000 members. When God promotes you in ministry, don’t get excited about it in the flesh. Instead, you should be sober because it means that you have to increase your spiritual capacity so you can be a blessing to more souls. You should seek to draw closer to God rather than waste time rejoicing among men.

When a fellow is promoted in God’s Kingdom, it is a call to more and greater responsibilities.

Hence, when you see genuine ministers of God being promoted in ministry, don’t envy them. The higher you go in God’s kingdom, the more the good work you must do increases. It is also important to know that when God promotes men and gives them greater responsibilities, He also supplies them with a greater measure of grace. You do not have to be scared about greater responsibilities that come with God’s promotion because He will make all grace abound to you as He lifts you higher (2 Corinthians 9:8).

As we read earlier in today’s memory verse, Paul said that desiring a higher office in God’s kingdom is good. Therefore, you should desire for God to keep promoting you as you continue to serve Him.

Key Point – Open Heavens 7 December 2025

Promotion in God’s kingdom is a call to greater responsibilities

Open Heavens 7 December 2025 Sunday Commentary

Praise the Lord.

Our topic for today once more is the true meaning of promotion. Beloved, we see from today’s study that promotion in God’s kingdom is way different from what it is known to be in the worldly system. In the world, we are made to understand today that promotion often means more comfort, more rest, fewer duties, and greater enumerations. But in God’s kingdom, promotion means greater responsibilities. Promotion means deeper sacrifices. Promotion is an increased call to serve. Promotion in God’s kingdom is a call to labor, not a call to relax. It is not a call to be noticed by men but one to be changed, transformed and refined by God. Hallelujah.

So, when God elevates his servant, he extends their assignment. And we see this pattern evident throughout scripture. When God called Moses, for example, he did not lead him into a season of rest, but into a lifelong journey of guiding a difficult nation. You would agree with me that Moses spent many nights awake listening to God. Many times, he was on the mountain alone with God. Moses spent a lot of time confronting national issues concerning the people of Israel. So beloved, in God’s kingdom, the higher you rise spiritually, the more God will demand from you. He would demand more prayer. He would demand more study. You would need to intercede more. you would also need more discipline.

Today’s study also makes us understand that if God gives you a bigger assignment, it means he’s inviting you to a deeper place of fellowshipping. God does not promote you so that you can rejoice among men. He promotes you so that you can draw nearer to him. Look at David for example. When he was anointed king, he did not seem to enter rest immediately. Instead, he entered into years of spiritual preparation with many battles and cave experiences. He entered into a season of his life where he needed deeper dependence on God. Promotion pushed David further into the secret place because leadership at that level required a man who knew God intimately. And that is God’s pattern. Before he showcases you, he stretches you. And after he showcases you, he even stretches you the more.

So beloved, when God showcases you, ensure to give yourself to deeper devotion, more prayer and greater submission to he who called you. Hallelujah. In today’s study also, our father and the Lord make us understand that kingdom promotion is not for envy. It is for service. You’d agree with me that many times some people on seeing ministers of God being elevated, they become envious. Many people admire the influence. They admire the authority. They admire the honor and the grace upon spiritual leaders. Yet they do not see the weight of responsibility that comes with such promotions. You recall that in our devotional for today, our father and the Lord made us understand that he even celebrates. He appreciates every time he spends sleeping on his own bed. That was a very deep statement.

So beloved, please do not envy those whom God has lifted. Instead, pray for them. Because many of those whom God has lifted are often stretched beyond what men can see. One other very beautiful lesson and a very deep consolation which we receive from today’s study is that kingdom promotion comes with God’s provision of grace. So, as responsibilities increase when God lifts a person, the grace also increases. God never calls a man to higher assignment without supplying a higher measure of strength. When God lifts you up, he makes all grace abound so that you can fulfill the work that he entrusts to you. It is my prayer for you today that you receive grace for every assignment God has entrusted to you. You would do very well in Jesus’ name. So do not be afraid because if God has sent you then definitely, he has your backing and you would never be put to shame. We are also made to understand from today’s study to desire promotion. But to ensure that our motives are pure, your heart must be aligned with God’s heart. Ask yourself, why do I desire this promotion? Is it for visibility or for usefulness in God’s kingdom? Is it for position only or for service? Is it for the applause or for the fulfilment of that assignment? God wants us to make ourselves available to him. Not for any selfish reason. He wants us to say, “Lord, here I am. Send me.” When that becomes our posture, then God can trust us with more responsibility, more influence, and more grace.

Beloved, I believe there’s a reason why God brings this message to us today. There is no doubt that the thoughts that he thinks towards us are of good. And in one way or the other he has given to us divine assignments. So, this message is to you and I today God is reminding us that there is greater work ahead. It is therefore my prayer for us today that the Lord would enlarge our capacities. He would strengthen our hearts. He would promote us according to his purpose for our lives. I also pray for us in the name of Jesus that every promotion we receive will make us more useful in his hands in Jesus’ name. I would like us at this point to bow our heads and ask the Lord would be saying, “Father, deepen my understanding of kingdom promotion in the name of Jesus.

Say, Father, please grant unto me the right mindset, the right understanding that I may approach kingdom promotion the right way in the name of Jesus. take away all forms of spiritual laziness away from my heart. Help me to be focused on the assignment you have given me and to give it my all in the name of Jesus. Ask the Lord today also say Lord enlarge my spiritual capacity for greater assignments in the name of Jesus. Say father help me grant me the grace to understand and to function properly in the fulfilment of every divine assignment you give unto me in the name of Jesus. We learned from today’s study that God gives grace as the assignment increases. Ask the Lord today say father for every assignment you have given me I receive commensurate grace in the name of Jesus. Ask the spirit of God today say holy spirit grant me grace to serve you with diligence and humility in the name of Jesus.

Ask the Lord today say father as I serve you help me to serve you in truth and in spirit. Help me to serve you in humility. Let it not be about me. Let it be all about you in the name of Jesus. Let there be no place for the manifestation of self. Let there be no room for the manifestation of pride. In the name of Jesus. Also tell the Lord today say father purify my motives and help me desire promotion for your glory alone in the name of Jesus. Tell the Lord today say father be my desire. Let my heart desire you and your service in the name of Jesus. Let my motives be cleansed. Let them be purified. You know it is possible for you to think that oh my motives are okay right now. We may not know those things that are hiding in our hearts waiting for manifestation. Say father please search my heart and take away anything that is not in line with your desire for me. Scrutinize my heart and deal with the potential to do anything that is against your will for me in the name of Jesus. Maybe you are in a season where you are trusting God for the abundant grace we’re talking about. You know that yes, you truly need this grace. Ask the Lord today. Say, “Father, as you have promised, let your grace be made available unto me in the name of Jesus.” Begin to worship the Lord. Appreciate him. Give him thanks. Father, we honor you. Receive our thanks, dear Lord. In Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.
